Happy New Year! Its been awhile since I have done a blog but what better day to do it when its below 30 thirty degrees outside? You may have noticed the new website by now and this is one of the reasons I have been slacking on doing a post. Now that I have learned how to edit and create on the new site I'll get my butt in gear on keeping it fresh. 2021 was fantastic year for me, spending more days on the water than ever. I appreciate you all that fished with me last year and looking forward to this one.
I have yet to get out on the water this year. The weather was outstanding the last two weeks of December but Winter showed up the first of the year with some much needed moisture. Snow and cold temps followed after the rain. Heavy snow and lose of power for a few days kept my mind off fishing. After the next few days looks like weather is improving mid week. I will be at the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival this coming weekend January 15 and 16 in Doswell, VA. Hope its busy and if you come please stop by the booth and talk fishing. I will be giving a smallmouth bass presentation both days at the show.
The end of 2021 produced some tougher fishing conditions with clear and low water flows. Ran four trips for musky with no success unless you count follows to the boat. The low and clear makes that almost impossible on the fly with the fish able to see so well. Since the conditions were bad I have pushed most folks off till we get higher flows, thankfully that time has come.
Excited to return to Brazil next month to fish for peacock bass. Its been since November 2019 since I have been there and its been on my mind everyday since. I have two trips headed there this year but both are full. I plan to return in 2023 so look to see dates set for that this year. I hope to have a saltwater destination trip on the books for this year and next. Stay tuned!
