Well its been since March from last blog post. For some reason for the past 5 months I haven't been able to log in to my website. I was beginning to think I was going to have to drop some cash on a new Macbook. Decided today to try it and just like that it logged me in, Thank the Lord! I didn't want to drop the coin for another Apple right now. So I have some catching up to do on what the fishing has been like over the past 5 months.
My annual migration to Roanoke Rapids, NC for the striped bass run was very successful for my anglers. Some very high number fish days on the fly this year and some really nice stripers caught. I will be returning again in 2025 for a few weeks to guide there. If striped bass fishing on the fly interested you please let me know by January because I tend to book up very quickly. We did also have towards the tail end of the striper run the periodic cicada emergence. This provided some incredible sight fishing with foam flies for common carp and some grass carp as well. We won't see that again for another 13 or 17 years at Weldon, NC.
Once back in Lynchburg, Virginia late May I finished up with some Jackson River trout floats before the heat of the Summer. June arrived and its been smallmouth bass on the fly since. Its been a great season here in Central Virginia for the smallies! We've had great numbers and size fish this year on the James River. One highlight was new anglers to smallmouth fishing caught 3 20 1/2 inch smallies along with a 19 1/2, 19, and 18 1/2 inch fish the same day. Something must of been in the water that day. Topwater or bug fishing as I call it has been in full swing since July and now we are getting closer to the end with a few more weeks left for it. We have had few cooler weeks than normal which has the annual cicadas dying off and the fish are looking for that splat on the water. Now that the computer is working with my website again I'll keep the blog more up to date. Hope to see you on the water!
