Winter Time is Musky Time

I had the pleasure of guiding a great guy and fishing guide from Montana this past week.  Jeff came to VA with his girlfriend to visit some of her family this past Thanksgiving.  So we set out on the James River on a 17 degree morning after there first musky on the fly.  It didn’t take long to get a follow, then we started getting eats.  We had four musky try to eat the fly in the first couple hours.  Two of them ate on the figure 8 at the boat and two away from the boat.  Somehow we had the kind of luck you don’t want Bad luck.  Jeff never got the fly to stick hard enough to keep them on longer than a few seconds. We also went out a second day in the pouring rain and sub freezing temps.  We had one musky lift off the bottom and eat.  The same thing before happened, Jeff put a good hook set on it and just came unbottuned.  So if we didn’t have bad luck we wouldn’t have any luck at all.
