I was wondering two weeks ago if I was going to have enough water to float in come August. Well that changed a week ago with a 3 to 4 inch rain storm hitting the headwaters of the James River. Last week was pretty much spent twiddling my thumbs after I got all the trips rescheduled. Now last night another storm dumped down more moisture again and raised water flows to the point of rescheduling the next few days. Before this began I had spent a couple days on the Jackson River with some new fly anglers from Florida. Yesterday was the only trip I was able to do this week. The James River being higher than normal but water clarity clear I was curious how the topwater bite would be. Madeline showed me everything was fine when she missed two right of the bat with poppers then landed her biggest and first fish of the day. Kenny decided to mess with the other predator fish a bit and hooked into his first ever gar on the fly. Hopefully water flows return to normal quickly because I have a bunch of folks to take fishing.
