SoHo Wasn’t Soso

With high water here in VA it was time to start thinking about a trip to the South Holston River near Bristol, TN.  My good friend and his farther expressed interest in fishing on New Years Day.   I knew they would be up for the three and half hour drive south.  After I checked the generation schedule, I made a call to friend and SoHo river guide Patrick Fulkrod about how its been fishing.  After speaking with him it was a no brainer.  Gotta trust a man when he spends 200 or more days on the SoHo.  I came armed with San Juan worms and orange egg patterns.  We ran a egg and worm all day and did well bouncing it off the bottom.  It didn’t take long for Greg to connect with his first fish of 2014.  Greg’s third trout was a beautiful 18 inch brown in his spawning colors.    I saw a few bugs mainly midges and a occasional rise but not enough to switch over to dries.  Nymphing produced all day as it usually does on this river.  Great day with good friends and a wonderful start to 2014.photo 3 (37) photo 2 (55)
