Took Will and Oliver out yesterday for there first musky on the fly trip. Both guys are students at W&L and booked me shortly after the talk they asked me do for the W&L Fly Fishing Club. The morning was cold (19 degrees) and the river was much higher thankfully. The river was a bit murky from the rain but felt good about catching a musky. After about two hours of fishing Oliver came tight and gave a good strip set. Oliver started fighting his first musky and he did well. He had the fish on for 5 minutes and got it close to the boat and I was ready to net the musky when the fly slipped out. Oliver was shaking and excited even though we didn’t get a photo of his fish and wet slimy hands. That afternoon we got into the last hole of our float and Will came tight and actually thought he was snagged on the bottom. The line started to move though and quickly realized he was hooked up. After a few minutes of hard tugs and head shakes we pulled a 40 inch musky in the boat. Will is very good fly tyer and actually tied a few musky flies to bring on this trip. He caught this fish on his on fly which just made it even sweeter!
