I hope everyone is having a great 2017 so far! My new year is going well. If you are reading this blog entry then you obviously notice the new website. After five years I figured it was time for a change or at least a face lift. Big thanks to my friend Rick for suggesting the new site and making it all come together. I am very happy with the way it has turned out, but unfortunately lost some of the earlier entry blog post but no big deal, so this is the first one of 2017. One of the new features to my website is you can sign up for my newsletter. I plan to do a quarterly newsletter and announce specials or trips I’m putting together. 2016 was a great year for me and I thank you all for your business. A lot of nice fish were caught, with a lot of personal best fish hitting the net, which always fires me up.
Fishing so far for the new year has been good. We have been receiving a lot more rain which seems to be the norm for January. Weather has been unsettled, one minute snow with a high of 25 and a few days later highs in the 60’s. Last Fridays trip on the Jackson river near Covington, VA was a little unusual but in a good way. Margo’s first cast she hooked a fat and healthy brown trout. Every fish after that one was well above average size also. In fact we only caught two fish under 13 inches nymphing. Brian threw some streamers throughout our day but with lower flows the browns weren’t having any. We did see and move some very big fish. Looking forward to getting back up there in higher flows to streamer fish.
Looking forward to this year on the water with familiar faces and new ones. Happy New Year!
