What a lovely site today.  As I type this it is raining nice and steady, remnants of Hurricane Harvey.  Unfortunately Harvey put a hurting on Houston, TX.  The fly fishing community has come together to help though. The Orvis Company is sending waders for rescue workers and companies like Yeti, Nautilus Fly Reels, Howler Brothers, and Sight Line Provisions are donating proceeds from customer purchases to the Harvey Relief.  Great time to purchase some new gear and have the proceeds go to helping those in need.

Generally I don’t get excited for rain but its been so dry this Summer we have been in need.  My last trip on the James River it was so low I had to push the boat through the shallows ten times.  May have cussed a bit to.  With rain in the forecast for today and tomorrow it’ll really help a brother out.  The topwater bite has been fantastic especially on the Staunton/Roanoke River.  The river has fished better than I have ever seen the past two months.  With another good month to go on the topwater bite.  A lot of personal best fish have hit the net for clients lately.  Its awesome in my line of work to be part of a anglers best smallmouth bass!

September still has plenty of availability for you to come out with me and possibly get your personal best smallmouth bass on the fly rod or maybe your first.  One thing is for sure we will have a good time and catch some fish on topwater flies!
