From the Flats to Bass

Back in Virginia from my 4th hosted trip to Turneffe Flats Lodge in Belize.  Turneffe Flats has never let me down and that is one of the main reason I keep returning!  I will be will returning Fall of 2020 once I get the dates set.  This trip I took eight anglers to the lodge with two returning guest and the rest first timers.  My main reason for the June trip was to hopefully to catch a migratory tarpon.  We did see some tarpon and myself and another guest hooked one briefly.   Even though the tarpon fishing was tough we still had all the other flats fish.  Two guest hooked 4 permit and landed three of them.  Many personal best bonefish were caught along with first bonefish caught.  Couple really big barracudas were landed as well.  I had a couple first, box fish on the fly, and massive snapper that tricked me for 30 seconds thinking I had had connected to a tarpon. Figured it wasn’t once we never saw a jump but a impressive fight from the snapper.  Felt like pulling on a Volkswagen Bug.

I worked 12 days straight from my last post in June before leaving for Belize.  The bass rivers have been producing some great fish and I have been fishing topwater flies all day.  This is the season now I generally do not need a to throw any streamers.  Fishing topwater will continue to get better and better through the rest of Summer.  I generally have great surface action till late September.  My July is completely full now and August is almost there.  The latter part of August I still have dates available.  September I still have plenty of availability.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July!!
