It has been a damn fine September so far. Smallmouth bass fishing the James River continues to produce citations caught on topwater flies. 4 citations the past three days this week, with the longest fish of the summer hitting the net at 22 inches. Heading to Colorado soon for 6 days. Looking forward to getting back on the waters I started guiding on 18 years ago. Taking a few clients with me for a taste of what the wild west has to offer the fly fisherman. Hopefully when I return I can get on some more 20 inch or better smallies before the cool nights change the bite over to streamer fishing. I am looking forward to cooler weather but not ready for this fishing to end. It has been a HOT summer and hope we have a normal Fall and Winter for the remainder of 2016. Fall trout and musky fishing is just around the corner.
