I have flat out been rolling. I apologize for the lack of posting but when you are guiding almost everyday spare time becomes nonexistent. I can’t complain though, I love what I do and I enjoy staying busy. The trout fishing has been great most trips. Caddis have been hatching on streams and rivers so my clients have been getting in some dry fly fishing. With the warmer than normal air temps and dry conditions the rivers are warming quicker than normal. Smallmouth bass fishing has been great with the warm days this Spring as well. If it stays like this I might be throwing poppers and sliders on the surface for bass in know time.
The King of Spring in my opinion is the striped bass. It started off slower than normal last week. With lower river flows and higher temps hopefully everything goes as normal for the striped bass run on the Roanoke/Staunton River this coming week. With a little rain in the forecast and a little cooler air temps, I hope the striped bass put on the feed bag before they spawn.
I will be at the South River Fly Expo this coming weekend April 22nd and 23rd in Waynesboro, VA. I have presentations each day along with other Virginia based fly fishing guides. If you come bring your rod and catch a few on the South River while you are there. Local brew will also be on hand at the show. Hope to see you there!
