A friend and I got out yesterday for a few hours on the James river. It was cold, in fact I under dressed and was to the point of shivering towards the end. We had one follow to the boat shortly after we started then a cast to a mid river tree yielded a musky in the mid 40 inch range. But like so many before, the musky got away. This made ten musky over the past few months that myself, friends, and clients had lost. All I could do was laugh about my bad luck and keep casting and stripping. After lunch Eric was up to bat. We were fishing mid river when a 35 inch musky hammered his fly ten feet from the boat. I was in mid sip of a drink when I saw this happen and spit it out all over the boat. Muskies will straight up scare the hell out of you when they come out of no where. The ups and downs of musky fishing will drive a man to drinking.
